During a home visit to promote services within the community, staff from the Dali District Household Registration Office met Ms. Du, a vivacious owner of a Vietnamese restaurant who has naturalized and become a citizen years ago. She is actively taking courses to obtain her interpreter certification. Having faced scams and unfriendly treatment when she first arrived in Taiwan without citizenship, she profoundly understands the importance of language, but also experienced the warmth of the Taiwanese people through their help.
Ms. Du, who encounters other immigrants yet to apply for citizen naturalization due to her business, is happy to help more immigrants seeking naturalization and share her experiences in collaboration with our public and private efforts. During our conversation, she mentioned that her young daughter was ill and hospitalized, with her husband attending to their daughter, leaving her to manage the restaurant alone. Following our office's outreach, she not only successfully booked a legal consultation but also learned about the availability of free government resources for full-time parents of children under six who cannot personally handle their affairs in person at the Dali District Household Registration Office. She exclaimed she had no idea such resources were available and expressed that despite being naturalized for many years, new immigrants still face many barriers and inconveniences in daily life. Our office is committed to creating a friendly environment, demonstrating to them that here, they have "family" too.
